Adopt A Patch

Anchorage Parks and Recreation, in pa​rtnership with the Anchorage Soil and Water Conservation District, invites you to Adopt-A-Patch between June and September and help care for our parks and trails by removing invasive plants such as European Bird Cherry, Bird Vetch, and White Sweetclover! This program encourages community members to dedicate a little time each month to removing invasive seedlings from a designated section of a park or trail.

Ten Things You Can Do to Help Fight Invasive Plants in Anchorage

  1. Become a Citizen Weeds Warrior and help pull invasive plants

  2. Learn to identify invasive plant species and report them when you find them

  3. Remove invasive plants on your own property

  4. Grow only non-invasive plants in your garden or as landscaping plantings

  5. Join the Anchorage Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area to help deal with invasives across the city

  6. Encourage businesses to not sell invasive plants

  7. Clean your vehicle, boots, outdoor gear, and pets of mud and debris before leaving town for other parts of Alaska

  8. Attend a workshop or search the Internet for more information about invasive plants

  9. Make sure that ground-disturbing equipment is thoroughly cleaned between projects and that any soil or rock comes from a weed-free source

  10. Spread the word!
